How we met
It all started back in 2007, when Kristin’s friend Nic invited her to Richmond for his birthday party. Kristin persuaded her friend Amanda to come too, so the two of them made the drive down from DC. Charles showed up later[1] and with a girl,[2] so Kristin didn’t really pay attention to him at first. However, after a couple of drinks and some dancing—and encouragement by Amanda to talk to the cute guy who kept looking over—the two started talking and realized they had a lot in common.
The group met up the next day for brunch, where Charles tried to play footsie with Kristin and failed,[3] then drank an entire carafe of orange juice by himself. Positive he had struck out by this point, Charles was surprised when Kristin gave him her number.[4]
They met up in Richmond the following weekend, and Charles drove Kristin back to DC. There was lots of driving and taking the train between cities after that. Over weekends and longer vacations, they enjoyed hiking, trips to California, Puerto Rico, Mexico and Maine and spending time getting to know each other. Eventually they got tired of the commute, and in 2011 Charles moved up to DC.
Last summer, Charles, with the help of their friends, proposed to Kristin by sending her on a scavenger hunt to some of their favorite places in DC. She said yes, and they've been looking forward to the big day ever since!
